AUSTRALIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM
The Australian education system has proudly produced academics, scientists, engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs and artists, who have contributed a lot to the world in various industries, and earned plenty of international awards in return. In Australia, over 1200 institutes offer around 22,000 courses, with a diverse range of options both for overseas and local students. The system is strategically grouped into various categories, as below:
THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT DESIGNED THE AUSTRALIAN QUALIFICATIONS FRAMEWORK (AQF)
which allows student to easily move through the education system here and provides an easy way for other countries around the world to recognise your qualification.
International students who complete a qualification within the AQF understand the entry requirements for higher qualifications and can progress from undergraduate to postgraduate study.
Australian Education system offers Primary, Secondary and Tertiary qualifications.
AUSTRALIAN SCHOOL EDUCATION (Primary and Secondary)
Pre School
Its of 1 year duration. Typical age of students is 3 to 4 years. It is not compulsory.
Preparatory Year
Its of 1 year duration. Typical age of students is 4 to 6 years. It’s not compulsory in some states
Primary School
Its of 6-7 years duration. Typical age of students is 5 to 12 years. This level is compulsory for all students.
Secondary School
Its of 5-6 years duration. Typical age of students is 12- 18 years. Depending on their interests, students have many course options.
TERTIARY EDUCATION
It includes both the higher education (including universities) as well as vocational education and training (VET).
The VET courses prepare people for work in jobs that do not require a university degree. Typically, VET courses take around 2 years of study. There are around 40 Australian Universities which offer courses that may take 3 to 4 years of study.
PATHWAY FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
English Language Course (ELICOS)
It enables students to focus on other education sectors at various levels. It’s a non-award programme with over 300 accredited centres around Australia.
Australian Education System
This is generally used as a pathway for students to meet the entry requirements of an undergraduate Bachelor degree. It’s a pathway to undergraduate and VET courses. It centers English Language development and consists of academic subjects. Generally, these are Certificate IV courses.
Diploma Programs
These diploma courses serve as a pathway to undergraduate courses for students, who otherwise do not satisfy the entry requirements of the undergraduate course. Generally, upon completion of this Diploma, student gain entry into the second year of an undergraduate programme.
