VISITOR VISA – Subclass 600

The application for a Visitor visa can be lodged to visit Australia for up to 3, 6 or 12 months as a tourist or for business purposes, with the following option of streams.

TOURIST STREAM

The tourist stream has no provision for the visa holder to be granted permission to work on the basis of financial hardship. The applicant is required to show evidence of sufficient funds, itinerary for his stay in Australia, and that he/she has an incentive and authority to return to their home country.

SPONSORED FAMILY STREAM

The applicant wants to visit a relative in Australia, where the Minister may require a sponsorship from the Australian relative of the applicant, and a security bond to be lodged before the visa is granted. The applicant is required to show evidence of sufficient funds, itinerary for his/her stay in Australia and that he/she has an incentive and authority to return to their home country.

BUSINESS VISITOR STREAM

For a business visa stream, the applicant is required to prove by evidence, as to why he/she needs to visit Australia for business, such as a letter of invitation from their host organisation in Australia; a letter from their employer stating the reasons for their visit, and documents to show that the company they work for is an actively operating business, such as a business registration certificate or annual report.

APPROVED DESTINATION STREAM

This stream replaced the sub-category in the 676 visa which had provided specifically for tour groups from the People’s Republic of China (PRC). This visa is only available to residents of certain gazetted areas of PRC.
